Spanish Course for Teachers (New Technology and Teaching Strategies for Spanish Teachers) at Alhambra Instituto in Malaga is the result of all tens of thousands of hours teaching Spanish to foreing students, teaching teachers, writing courses, guiding, reading, studying, and testing ideas with the new technologies.

Entry Requirements:

a) Knowledge of spanish language, minimum C1
b) Computer knowledge at normal user level

• Moodle platform. Installation, and developement of a course. Uploading materials to our platform. Using the Chat with our students.View video
• Scorm 1.2 and 2004. How to produce material for your classes and make Scorm packages.
• Exelearning. Introduction and practices with all te Idevices.
• Flash Quiz Maker. How to develop new and atractive exercises, using your bored powerpoint and transforming in dinamics and engaging activities.
• Articulate Quiz. How to develop yor tests, surveys and exams and using them online with your students.
• Hotpotatoes. We will teach how to use and develop exercises and quizes with this clasic and free program that is used by millions in more than 20 languages.
• Reload Editor. We will work with this usefull software for preparing our Scorm packages in very easy way and intuitive.

This course is designed for Foreing teachers of non-Spanish descent, who want to advance and improve their Spanish knowledge. During the course, the teachers get to know the current methods, the New Technologies applied for teaching languages and the most topical didactic techniques to teach Spanish to foreigners.. Your new principal expects you to integrate technology into the curriculum. You feel you are fairly average in your knowledge about computers and feel somewhat anxious about the expectation to integrate technology. Where do you start? What does the integration of technology in teaching languages exactly mean?  Your principal guides you to a web site on the Internet that is devoted to helping teachers understand how to integrate technology.

Technology is a tool for teaching languages

Sometimes the technology resources that world language teachers have at their disposal seem more like a magic carpet or a magic wand, capable of transforming teaching and curriculum in ways that would have unimaginable a decade ago. But technology is just a tool: the skilled teacher, like the skilled craftsman, matches the tool to the task in order to accomplish an important purpose. At the same time as we consider our own uses of technology, we need to focus on our students and their need to use technology effectively. Technology, especially the Internet, can provide access to authentic sources of language that are simply unavailable any other way. When we integrate technology meaningfully, we are supporting them in the development of two essential tools for lifelong learning: skill in the use of another language and the ability to make discerning and effective use of technological tools.

The target of this course is to give teachers of Spanish as a foreign/second language an update of the latest teaching methods and technologies from both theoretical and practical perspectives.

Spanish Language and Methodology Refresher
Improves competence in Spanish; enhances techniques and activities for use with students; helps to evaluate published materials for young learners.
Creativity in the Classroom: This course also focuses on creative ways to liven up your teaching of the Spanish language in your country. A practical course filled with activities and teaching techniques.

An Introduction to Using New Technology in the Classroom
Explores the potential uses of new technologies in language learning. Includes blended learning techniques, exploring blogs, wikis, podcasts and design of webpages. Keep in mind, any of these elements can be combined in a number of ways to enable a full spectrum of new learning technology…from content creation, to content access and delivery to the students and other teachers.

As a teacher, you will wear many hats. You will, to name but of a few of the roles teachers assume in carrying out their duties, be a communicator, a disciplinarian, a conveyor of information, an evaluator, a classroom manager, a counselor, a member of many teams and groups, a decision-maker, a role-model, and a surrogate parent.

Funding

Teachers from the EU enrolling on the Alhambra Instituto Spanish Teacher Training course may be eligible for funding under the Comenius or Grundtvig schemes. The Comenius and Grundtvig programmes provide training grants for staff involved in school education to attend training courses of up to six weeks in length in participating European countries.

The deadlines for grant applications are far in advance of the course dates, so it is necessary to apply early. Those seeking this EU funding should contact their National Agency.
